Can you imagine life without music and poetry ... without diverse forms of inspiration striking our senses … from within or external …it may be awkward to imagine but wouldn't you agree life would be so incomplete ...

A Sufi Perspective on Art

A collection of such inspirational words can never be complete. My friend here is a fraction I share with you …

The Source of Joy

No one Knows what makes the soul wake up so happy!
Maybe a dawn breeze has blown the veil from the face of God.
A thousand new moons appear. Roses open laughing.
Hearts become perfect rubies like those from Badakshan.
The body turns entirely spirit. Leaves become branches in this wind!
Why is it now so easy to surrender, even for those already surrendered?
There's no answer to any of this. No one knows the source of joy.
A poet breathes into a reed flute, and the tip of every hair makes music
Shams sail down clods of dirt from the roof,
and we take jobs as doorkeepers for him.

~Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (r.a) (1207-1273 AD)

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness
some momentary awareness comes,
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture.

Still , treat each guest honorably
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

~Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (r.a) (1207-1273 AD)

Every breath that is wasted can never be retrieved, for every breath is a unique entity.

~ Hazrat Junayd { r.a }

All pictured forms are reflections in the water of the stream;
when you rub your eyes, indeed, all are He.

This is love: To fly heavenward,
To rend, every instant, a hundred veils.
The first moment, to renounce life
The last step, to fare without feet.
To regard this world as invisible
Not to see what appears to one's self.

Let go of thought and bring it not into your heart, for you are naked and
thought is an icy wind. You think in order to escape from torment and suffering,
but your thinking is torment's fountainhead.
Know that the bazaar of God's Making is outside of thought…

~Hazrat Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi (r.a) (1207-1273 AD)

The Turning Tide

What day will reach Your hand to me
Which sunrise blind me with Your eyes…

What winds will blow You close again
Which rains soften these harsh skies

New moon of my darkened soul
As I drown beyond Your horizons, I know

I know this tide of Love will turn
Must turn soon
Soon…

And You will breath my life
And make me whole

~ Alex Cowie

…The lovely forms and colors are undone,
And what seemed many things is only one.

~ Hazrat Farid al-Din 'Attar { r.a }

I am in love with all of the universe, for all of the universe belongs to Him.

~ Hazrat Sa'di { r.a }

Remain silent! To sit quietly with a still mind is better by far than being distracted by speech.

~ Hazrat Jami { r.a }

It is easier to uproot a mountain with a needle than it is to rid the heart of pride.

~ Hazrat Jami { r.a }

In an instant rise from time and space. Set the world aside and become a world within yourself.
